The varieties of orchids are legion, and it seems that Dendrobium is the "catch -all" grouping of orchids. If seems as if when the orchid experts didn't know exactly how a particular flower fits into the orchid family, they called it a Dendrobium! That's probably why there are over 1,200 Dendrobium species that are native to the tropics of Asia and The Pacific.
The name Dendrobium is Greek for "life in a tree" so why the Chinese reference to rock and container in its name...who knows? As Shakespeare wrote: "O! be some other name. What's in a name?
